My Child the Smartass. Like the donkey.

James and I went to the DAM today with a friend, because the first Saturday of every month is free. Neat, huh? Anyway, we were just getting into the Spanish Colonial part and James was getting a mite cranky. I suggested he might like a nap, like Donnie (my friend's little boy, who slept most of the time we were there) and James looked away and muttered "Mama needs a nap."

There was this cool "bubble" area outside of the Cowboy art, and James loved watching the other kids run around. He was pretty content to just sit and hug his chosen glowing bubble. Yay for crappy cell phone pictures, because Mommy forgot the camera.

Ding, Dong, the Cast is Gone!

Yay for the cast being off! James can  (theoretically) walk again, though he hasn't tried yet. Apparently that's normal, but if he's still not walking at all by next Wednesday we have to take him back to the orthopedic office.

Veggie Tales on Baby Vicodin

Tonight James complained that his leg hurt, so he got some Baby Vicodin. Since last night when I tried to give it to him straight he spit it out all over the floor, I made him some "special" chocolate milk. Chris mentioned that he may think that chocolate milk makes him high now. "Dude, have you tried chocolate milk? It's the best, man. Woah." The special milk did have the effect that, when he was done with his pizza, he said "Done" and waved goodbye to his pizza. Then it was time for some singing vegetables.

Duuuude. Have you ever watched Veggie Tales? I mean, really watched Veggie Tales?

Sock as mitten.

That cucumber is, like, singing. Woah.

Sock as blindfold.

Sock on my nose! He was actually seriously proud of this, and repeated it multiple times.

Baby's First Broken Leg

James has broken his leg. Playing on the trampoline was apparently not so fun for him. Don't worry, he didn't fall off, he just fell on his knees on it and managed to twist his foot or something in a way that broke his leg. He's got a lovely splint on it, and will get a cast at some point. Both his bones in the lower part of his right leg are broken, poor boy! The nice doctor wrote him a prescription for kiddie Vicodin, which he will get to take if he can't sleep from pain. I'll be sure to take good notes, because if he's anything like me or his Uncle Eddie, he'll be pretty entertaining while on the stuff.

Also, he's not a freak- toddlers don't have kneecaps until they're 3 or 4.
Crappy cell phone picture, but boy was he mad about that splint. I had to hold him while they put it on him and he was not pleased.

Eating pizza on the couch, because when your leg is broken, you should get to eat wherever you want.

Dinosaurs Eat Bears. Lots.

We were driving down to visit Grandma and Papa K on Friday because Chris had a gig that evening near where they live, so we all went down for a visit. James thoroughly enjoyed the ride, and true to his nature he refused to sleep until we were 10 minutes away (after being in the car for 90 minutes...). During this attentive wakefulness, he informed us that he saw some bears outside.

J: "I see bears outside. Daddy bear and beeb bears."
Me: "What are the bears doing?"
J: "Hiding."
At this point I start suggesting things the Berenstain bears do, just in case his bears happened to be doing those things. James said "no" to all my suggestions until this one: "Are the bears hiking?"
J: "Yes, bears climb mountain. See saur (=dinosaur). T-Rex. Saur says RAAWR, eats bears."
Chris: "The dinosaur ate the bears?"
J: "Yes. Lots."

No wonder the bears were hiding. I'm not sure where this theme of dinosaurs eating the animals James sees/pretends to see outside, but hey. Yay for creativity, right?

This is the second story James has told about dinosaurs eating animals. The first one was about a year ago when we were driving up to see my parents and James kept talking about wanting to see deer and horses. We happened to see both kinds of critters, and after we drove past the deer James proclaimed "See deer! See saur! Raaar! Saur eat deer."

James, 28 months

James is definitely getting sneaky. Well, he thinks so, anyway. Yesterday he was coloring on the patio with his chalk and I was in the house. I came to check on him and he was sitting in the dining room, coloring the carpet. I don't think he was expecting to be caught, but he was very obedient in going back outside. He also wouldn't take a nap. I put him down, then about 20 minutes later I heard him banging stuff together. I opened the door and found him sitting in the corner with his fabric toy box sitting next to him on one side, and his lego box open on his other side. He was having a grand time.

He's also been very into helping me water the plants. "Wayer pyants, more wayer pyants!" Unfortunately he gets a little too enthusiastic and sometimes over waters my plants. He does do well at using pretend water.
