One Month Old!

My how time flies!!

Miss Cecilia is one month old today! (And no, I have no idea how that happened!) She eats and sleeps LOTS and started smiling about a week ago. She really hates having a dirty diaper. Currently she's wearing 0-3 month sized clothes and weighs somewhere in the neighborhood of 11 pounds. I swear she is bigger every time I look at her. She loves her big brother and sister and smiles at them as well as Chris and me. She sleeps really well, and actually slept a 7 hour stretch a few nights ago (at 4 weeks old exactly).

We've also discovered that she's colicky. It seems that 4:00pm is evil baby time. Every. Damn. Day.  When I eat heavily spiced or even remotely garlicky or spicy food it's worse. It's horrible and demoralizing and frustrating, and often the only thing that stops it is wearing her and/or her falling asleep.

She's HERE! (Finally!)

Short version: 12 hours labor, epidural, baby sunny side up, 45 minutes of pushing, born 3:44 pm. 8 pounds 14 ounces. Pictures to come shortly once I get them off the camera.

Long version:

(Seriously don't read it if you don't want to know about my cervix. You've been warned!)
This whole delivery was bizarrely parallel to my first, but with far better outcome for me, and less trauma to everyone.

Friday the 9th I was a week overdue. I was sore and exhausted and beyond done being pregnant, and I felt like the only way I was ever going to start labor was for my water to break. I had my 41 week appointment that morning, and we'd scheduled a 42 week check for the following Thursday and induction for Friday the 16th.

Fun aside: January 10th was the inspection resolution deadline for our house, so we knew we were going to have to sign some things that day (thankfully, electronically).
We went to bed at about 11 on Friday night, I was timing contractions and noting that they’d been every about 7 minutes for a couple days (whee). I woke up at 3:30am on January 10th with a decently intense and painful contraction, but didn’t really think anything of it because honestly that was sort of the norm by that point at 41 weeks 1 day pregnant. I peed and came back to bed at 3:38. A few minutes later I had another contraction, this time accompanied by a rather enormous gush all over the bed. I woke Chris up with my exclamation of “Ohmygod, my water just broke!” and continued to gush all over my side of the bed while he went and grabbed every available towel in the bathroom. I tried to go back to sleep for a little while, but the contractions were immediately so painful and intense that I was already having to focus through the pain and really work to let them accomplish what they were doing, rather than tense up. I had to resort to making “Aaahhh” sounds and trying to stay open and relaxed starting almost immediately. At about 4 I gave up trying to get back to sleep, and we left for the hospital 45 minutes away at a little after 5am. Turns out that 45 minutes to the hospital, even with no traffic at all (yay Saturday morning?) REALLY sucks when you are in active labor like that. I tried to eat and drink a little but threw up pretty fast, and I decided that I hated every bump in every road, and every red light was out to make me miserable.

We pulled up to the hospital and Chris went and got me a wheelchair, and they directed us to the Mother and Baby unit, where the nurse immediately sent us to triage (in my head I said “Are you fucking kidding me? Triage? Really?” but once the nurse there saw the puddle between my feet and how much I was actually in labor, she brought me to a labor/delivery room. We were set up and I was being monitored by 6am. Because Delilah’s delivery had been only about 30 minutes after my water broke, we thought that maybe this one would be quick too, so by about 7am the room was set up. They monitored me for a little while and started the IV antibiotics because I was Group B Strep positive. I also got an ultrasound to verify that baby was head down, which was apparently hospital procedure even though I’d had an ultrasound the day before to check fluid levels and had already verified that she was head down. I was 5cm dilated, and having very frequent and very painful contractions. I was doing my absolute best to surrender to them and let my body work but my hips and low back were feeling every ounce of pain, and my pelvis was objecting mightily (I had symphysis pubis dysplasia/SPD for the last 8ish weeks of my pregnancy). The jetted bathtub became my best friend for about an hour.  The tub had jets labeled “feet” but which hit my hips absolutely perfectly to ease the pain and give his hands a rest. Chris helped me out at around 8am. I was feeling pushy and they checked me again. 7cm.

I was put back on the monitor (UGH) and they noticed that the baby’s heart rate was not doing well with my intense contractions. I was really, really thirsty, but because I’d been throwing up I just asked for ice chips to chew on. Around 9am they put in an internal monitor (poor girl has scratches and a scab from it still 3 days later) to keep better track of her heart rate. I also got an oxygen mask around this time. I was able to labor on my knees in a supported kneeling position, which felt good but Chris still had to use strong pressure on my hips and low back with every contraction. At every 2-3 minutes, he really didn’t get any breaks. Because of the internal monitor, I could not go back in the tub. During this time, the OB noted that the baby seemed to be OP(occiput posterior)/OT (occiput transverse) which explained the back labor and lack of dilation. I needed to hold Chris’ hand very hard while I was focusing on trying to let contractions happen without letting my body push, even though the baby’s head was pushing against my back and rectum which makes pushing happen. I spent a LOT of this time visualizing my midwife Mary from when I delivered Delilah, making me breathe with her instead of letting my body push before I was fully dilated.

The baby’s heartrate was still not doing well with the contractions, so they did a saline infusion via catheter to add some fluid back around her to try to cushion her a bit (I think this was around 9:30). This worked somewhat. The OB on call did mention that if her heart rate continued to be this slow we would be facing an emergency C-section in about 30 minutes; as soon as she said that, Cecilia’s heart rate sped right back up. While we had expressed our wishes to do this med-free, the nurse could see how much pain I was in and how tense I was, and the fact that I had not dilated any further for two hours despite the frequency and intensity of contractions and my changing positions. She asked if I thought I might want to consider an epidural, just in case that allowed my body to relax and dilate. I immediately went back in my head to James’ delivery, and how my decision to get an epidural (evidently) made everything so much worse. Knowing, however, that we already had an internal monitor, and the saline infusion catheter, and I would not be getting out of bed and being able to move around much (due to the interventions plus the SPD). Chris and I talked about it. He told me I was doing an amazing job and that he would support whatever I wanted; I just wanted to cry because I felt like I was spiraling down the disaster trail I’d been down before. I knew, deep down, that I was completely exhausted and would not have the energy to keep breathing through the urge to push for however many hours it would take me to finish dilating. Around 10:30 I told the nurse I wanted an epidural, though I mentioned my previous experience with them and the source of my reluctance.

The anesthesiologist was amazing and had my epidural in place by 11:00. I could still feel the contractions, but they were 75% less painful and suddenly I found that I could deal with them, breathe through them, and allow my muscles to unclench. I never knew that a properly placed/properly executed epidural could work for me. My blood pressure dropped a lot shortly after the epidural was placed, which I guess sometimes happens. The anesthesiologist came back and gave me a shot of fenylephrine, which fixed things. It did still start to wear off around 3:00, but that was fine with me (that part is coming up). The nurses and doctors noted some meconium in the fluid at around this point, and the baby’s heart rate was still dropping with the contractions even though I was no longer crawling out of my skin with each one. The OB suggested giving me a dose of terbutaline in my IV, to help relax my uterus and give the baby (and me) a break for a little bit. They assured me that it would only be for about 30 minutes, and the contractions would pick back up again (which they did). It worked beautifully, and once I was laying on my right side Cecilia’s heart rate started cooperating again. I also got to nap for about 2 hours. I was dimly aware of contractions picking back up, and Chris told me he could tell because I changed my breathing with each one. At around 1:00 or so I woke up and noticed that the contractions were definitely picking up in intensity. I could feel that I needed to poop, and mentioned it to the nurse. She checked me and said that my cervix was softer, and the baby had moved down more, but I was still only at 7cm. The OB said to start pitocin to help the contractions work to move down this OT/OP baby. We did try putting a big peanut ball between my knees to open my pelvis and help the baby turn, but that didn’t really work. The pit definitely did it’s job, and I went back to sleep for a little bit between contractions. My heartrate started going up pretty high, and they noticed I was running a fever (another side effect of the epidural, apparently, because it went away completely a few hours after delivery and I never felt ill at all). I was finally making dilation progress, and actually felt the baby move down during one contraction, but had a very swollen lip of cervix left. They had me try pushing with a contraction to see if they could move it out of the way, but the baby really didn’t tolerate that very well, and it didn’t work. I still kept flashing back to during James’s delivery where I also had a lip of cervix that would just not move. They decided it would be best if I just kept letting the pitocin help (they never had to turn it up very high, I only needed a little bit of a push from it) and we’d check again in a little while.

At around 2:30 I was *FINALLY* at 9cm, but still had the lip of cervix; at about 3 I was complete and started pushing. The OB was absolutely awesome and was able to actually push the little bit of cervix out of the way *and* turn the baby’s head as I pushed (side note: I really should look up who the OB was because I cannot remember her name). If you’ve given birth vaginally before, you are probably familiar with the ring of fire which generally accompanies a baby’s head as it comes out, and it vanishes as soon as the head/shoulders are through I had this VERY mildly with Delilah, and very briefly. Well... I had it the entire 45 minutes it took to push Cecilia and her chubby little body out. I am so, so grateful that the doctor had such strong hands that she was able to turn Cecilia as she was born. We were unable to delay cord clamping for very long, because she did not cry beyond a couple gurgles when she was born. Chris cut the cord and the NICU team took the baby over to the warming bed. The OB noted that she was a big baby, probably about 8 pounds. They worked on getting Cecilia to breathe for what seemed like an eternity. I have no idea what her APGAR scores were (EDIT: I found out at her 2 week check up; they were 8 and 8). She never cried. I never noticed anything particular about my other babies crying but Cecilia’s lack of crying was awful. I’m getting teary just remembering. I finally asked if she was okay, and they assured me that she was but they were just trying to get her lungs a little more open. The nurses and OBs working on me had me deliver the placenta and did all the usual fun things (no real tears though, surprisingly! Just a teeny little papercut sized thing that didn’t warrant stitching). I did finally get to hold my baby after they did what they so pleasantly termed a “sweep” of my uterus. Yeah. That was horrid. I never again wish to have anyone’s hand inside my uterus, but apparently it was necessary as I was bleeding pretty badly and actually did have clots that were preventing things from properly clamping down. Turns out I had a postpartum hemorrhage, but “only” lost about 750ml (half of what I lost after James was born).

Cecilia Ann was born at 3:44 pm on January 10, 2015. She weighed 8 pounds, 14 ounces, and was 20 inches long. My reaction to her weight may have been “HOLY GOD, she’s almost 9 pounds?!” She ate for an HOUR after she was handed to me for the first time. Contrary to Delilah’s prediction, she never pooped on me. She has so far been very easy and relaxed; having a chubby baby is pretty different! We don’t have to wake her for feedings, and I’ve never brought a baby home that was already too big for some of the smaller newborn clothing items.

Things I have learned? Baby position is VERY important to ease of delivery. My two OP babies both resulted in epidurals, internal monitors, back labor (though James’ was by far worse), and lots and lots of pushing (almost 3 hours with James, 45 minutes with Cecilia), and longer labors (though Cecilia’s was almost exactly 12 hours, just like Delilah, had she *not* been OP/OT it would have been significantly shorter), in addition to postpartum hemorrhages (though this could have been from other things, like the pitocin/epidural/long ass transition) and a bruised tailbone.

Recovering from the SPD is not really that pleasant. My pelvis doesn't feel properly connected to itself, and I'm just waiting for things to settle a bit more before getting an adjustment which I think will help a lot. I *can* walk pretty well though, which is awesome, and more than I could do before delivery!

Also, epidurals are not the devil. They *can* work perfectly if they are placed perfectly, though I still metabolized the drug faster than normal. Mine did make my face really itchy for a while, which was weird.

41 Weeks... Yeah.

How Far along: 41 weeks

Baby size: Big. I don't know how big, because the only email updates I got this week said "Your baby is 1 week old" which really just didn't help anything at all.

Total weight gain: 18ish.

Maternity clothes: Definitely, though not all of them are even long enough.

Sleep: Ugh, give me more. Naps most days are nice, but I'd really rather just not be pregnant still.

Best Moment this week: Hm. I've enjoyed having time with my family. The kids and I had a tickle fight today which was really fun. Oh, and we bought a house! We're under contract to close on my birthday. And James turned 7 which was cool. He's really a great kid.

Movement: Yep.

Gender:  Girl!

Labor signs: Same old, same old. Timeable contractions around the clock at 7-9 minutes apart for days and days...

Belly button: I still have one.

Cravings: Not anything exceptionally exciting.

Aversions: Nothing new.

What I miss: NOT BEING PREGNANT.

Stretch Marks: No more new ones.

What is different this time around: Well, I've never actually been 41 weeks pregnant before.

What I am looking forward to this week: Having a baby? Please? Although I am scheduled for induction next Friday so one way or another that's going to happen. I'd prefer no induction, but this child is pretty insistent on having things her way.

Happy due date to me...(40 weeks?!)

I really hope this is my last belly picture.

How Far along: 40 weeks

Baby size: Well, the Bump said jackfruit sized... but I'm not buying that. She's big, though... and really, really squished in there.

Total weight gain: 17ish last time I checked

Maternity clothes: Definitely, though not all of them are even long enough.

Sleep: Ugh, give me more. Although so far, 2015 has included naps every day, so that's been nice ;-)

Best Moment this week: Starting maternity leave, probably.

Movement: Yep.

Gender:  Girl!

Labor signs: Nothing exciting. The nurse at my appointment this week tried to get me all excited when she was like "Oooh, regular contractions! Keep that up!" and I said "Yeah... that's been going on for 2 weeks..."

Belly button: I still have one.

Cravings: Not anything exceptionally exciting. I do really like chocolate, and I did really want pizza last night.

Aversions: Nothing new, but I am really not a fan of the smell of garlic-flavored things. Garlic is fine, but apparently garlic Triscuits are not.

What I miss: Same stuff: being able to get around comfortably, not having PUPPPs and SPD, etc.

Stretch Marks: No new ones since last week as far as I have noticed.

What is different this time around: Well, I've never actually been 40 weeks pregnant before.

What I am looking forward to this week: Having a baby? Buying a house? My firstborn turning 7 on Wednesday?!

39 Weeks. Getting there.

How Far along: 39 weeks

Baby size: Bigger than last week?

Total weight gain: 17-18ish.

Maternity clothes: Definitely, though not all of them are even long enough.

Sleep: Ugh, give me more. Please. Really, if certain small members of the household would just shut up and let me sleep, I'd get a nap every day (when I'm home), and that would be nice.

Best Moment this week: Christmas :-), and the Christmas party at the elder Kolakowskis' house.

Movement: Yep.

Gender:  Girl!

Labor signs: Same old, same old. Nothing exciting.

Belly button: I still have one.

Cravings: Food is good. Chocolate and peppermint are pretty necessary, as well as seasonally available, so that's good. Weirdly I've craved those cherry cordial chocolates, which I really don't generally even like.

Aversions: Nothing new.

What I miss: Same stuff: being able to get around comfortably, not having PUPPPs and SPD, etc.

Stretch Marks: No new ones since last week as far as I have noticed.

What is different this time around: Pretty much everything. Except the part about there being a baby in my belly, and having PUPPPs. Also, living with my parents.

What I am looking forward to this week: Having a baby? Starting maternity leave? Having 3 final days at work? Some combination of those things?

38 Weeks

How Far along: 38 weeks

Baby size: Full length still (so... 19-21 inches) and somewhere around 6 1/2-7 1/2 pounds

Total weight gain: 16ish? Our scale is packed, but at the doctor's yesterday I was 2 pounds less than 2 weeks ago, so I'm guessing. The slight loss is what I've experienced at the end of both other pregnancies, too, so not really surprising, and it means baby will be here soon (duh).

Maternity clothes: Definitely.

Sleep: Well, I need more than I've been getting. Stupid stress and being frickin busy. It is infinitely more comfortable to be in my bed than sharing a twin with Delilah though.

Best Moment this week: Closing on the house! Now to find a new one...

Movement: Yep.

Gender:  Girl!

Labor signs: Hah. Yeah. Moderately uncomfortable contractions 7-12 minutes apart for 4 days now. Whee.

Belly button: Still confused. Mostly out but often flat. Still trying to be a volcano.

Cravings: Food is good.

Aversions: Nothing new.

What I miss: Pretty much the same things as last week, plus I miss not being so itchy.

Stretch Marks: I think a few small ones, which would explain the massive flair up of PUPPPs last week. It's kind of hard to tell though, because they could be old ones that are all red and irritated from scratching.

What is different this time around: Mostly everything. I did also find out I'm Group B Strep positive, so yay for IV antibiotics in labor... though according to the nurse yesterday, it really doesn't change much in terms of how my labor will go/how I can manage it.

What I am looking forward to this week: Christmas! And maybe a baby? But being way, way, way less stressed out.

37 Weeks!?

How Far along: 37 weeks

Baby size: Full length still (so... 19-21 inches) and somewhere around 6 1/2 pounds.

Total weight gain: 18ish

Maternity clothes: Definitely.

Sleep: I miss sleeping all night comfortably. But I definitely need more sleep, and it must be on a mountain of pillows. Poor Chris has to share a bed with the mountain and me.

Best Moment this week: Hmm. I'm going with discovering the magic that is Pine Tar Soap for PUPPPs.

Movement: Yep. She's squirmy and big.

Gender:  Girl!

Labor signs: Braxton-Hicks contractions.

Belly button: Still confused. Mostly out but often flat. Still trying to be a volcano.

Cravings: Chocolate, in a variety of forms. I still really want a rum and Coke. Mayo + bacon is still a fantastic combination.

Aversions: Nothing new.

What I miss: Pretty much the same things as last week, plus I miss not being so itchy.

Stretch Marks: Still no new ones, as far as I can tell, but that stupid PUPPPs rash makes it really hard to see. Pine Tar Soap is awesome, though.

What is different this time around: Mostly everything. I did also find out I'm Group B Strep positive, so yay for IV antibiotics in labor...

What I am looking forward to this week: Moving up to my mom's house, getting all the final details done so we can close next Friday.

36 Weeks

How Far along: 36 weeks

Baby size: Full length (so... 19-21 inches, based on my babies) and somewhere around 6 pounds. She's just bulking up at this point. We shall see how big she is when she comes out. I'm predicting 8 pounds if she makes it to her due date. According to this estimating equation, she's about 6.8 pounds right now. Um. That's bigger than Delilah was at birth! I'd believe it though. This baby just feels bigger to me.

Total weight gain: 18ish

Maternity clothes: Definitely.

Sleep: I miss sleeping all night comfortably. But I definitely need more sleep, and it must be on a mountain of pillows. Poor Chris has to share a bed with the mountain and me.

Best Moment this week: We had lots of fun shopping on Sunday at little local stores. I also received my Secret Santa gift and it made me really happy. Ultrasound at my 36 week appt today confirmed that she's head down and still a girl. :-)

Movement: Yep. She's squirmy and big.

Gender:  Girl!

Labor signs: Braxton-Hicks contractions are decently uncomfortable and frequent but not doing anything they shouldn't be. Occasional "real" contractions are appearing. Baby has dropped a bit so heartburn is better. This also means that I waddle, because dammit, when your pelvic symphisis joint doesn't work, and your baby drops her big old head down further, that's just what happens.

Belly button: Still like a tiny volcano. Out, but trying really hard not to be, and sometimes just flat.

Cravings: Peppermint bark...chocolate... Indian fry bread = YUM.

Aversions: Nothing new.  I really don't feel well after eating eggs for breakfast, which is pretty standard for my final stretch in all 3 pregnancies now.

What I miss: I really miss running and being able to function and move around without being in pain. I desperately want to not be slow and hobbly and waddly but I think that's just not going to happen. I miss being able to use sinks/counters without my belly being in the way and me having to lean over awkwardly (or lift my belly up to rest on the counted...ugh). I miss being able to put on shoes easily/bending over. I miss sleeping and not having heartburn frequently.

Stretch Marks: Still no new ones :-) but that stupid PUPPPs rash is flaring up again (OH GOD THE ITCHING). The kids like helping to scratch my belly.

What is different this time around: Mostly everything. Generally for the better, but the SPD I could do without.

What I am looking forward to this week: Sorting more stuff to decide what we need to bring to my mom's house and what needs to be/can be stored. Decorating a tree at my mom's house with the kids and seeing them getting excited about Christmas. Looking at houses tomorrow! YAY!!! Knock on wood we find one we love and can actually get an offer in.

35 Weeks/35 Days Left

How Far along: 35 weeks

Baby size: 18-20" and somewhere in the neighborhood of 5-6 pounds. Apparently this makes her about the size of a small chicken, which I find funny.

Total weight gain: 17ish

Maternity clothes: Definitely.

Sleep: I like sleep a lot. I would like more of it. I actually feel like I'm as exhausted as the first trimester again.

Best Moment this week: Selling our house :-) and Thanksgiving.

Movement: Yep.

Gender:  Girl!

Labor signs: BH contractions are decently uncomfortable but not doing anything they shouldn't be.

Belly button: Kind of like a volcano. Technically out, but trying really hard not to be.

Cravings: Peppermint bark...chocolate... that's about it.

Aversions: Nothing new.

What I miss: The same things, plus I really miss running and being able to function and move around without being in pain. I desperately want to not be slow and hobbly but I think that's just not going to happen. I miss being able to use sinks/counters without my belly being in the way and me having to lean over awkwardly. I miss being able to put on shoes easily.

Stretch Marks: Still no new ones :-) but that stupid PUPPPs rash is flaring up again.

What is different this time around: Mostly everything. Generally for the better, but the SPD I could do without.

What I am looking forward to this week:  I have no idea. Maybe getting our shiznit organized better so we can figure out what to send into storage and what essentials we need to keep out for us and the kids to stay at my parents' house for a few weeks. Probably doing some Christmas shopping, picking up a couple baby essentials that we don't have any more (boppy, baby bathtub) which we could potentially need before Christmas/while staying with my parents. We also have Friend Thanksgiving tomorrow.

34 Weeks (hold me)

How Far along: 34 weeks

Baby size: 18"ish and about 5 pounds

Total weight gain: 17ish

Maternity clothes: Definitely.

Sleep: I like sleep a lot. I would like more of it.

Best Moment this week: LISTING OUR HOUSE!! YAY!!! Andplusalso we "won" a $250 gift card for the Habitat for Humanity ReStore for only $50 from a silent auction at James's school. School gets money, we get money for our new house when that happens, win/win!

Movement: Yep.

Gender:  Girl!

Labor signs: BH contractions are getting more uncomfortable, but nothing exciting (which is great)

Belly button: Well... in the morning it's in-ish, but in the evening it's out, so, I guess confused.

Cravings: Chocolate. Especially chocolate ice cream/milk shakes. Especially especially the GoodTimes flavor of the month frozen custard from October, but it's not October any more so I can't get it. Le sigh.

Aversions: Nothing new.

What I miss: The same things, plus I really miss running and being able to function and move around without being in pain. I desperately want to not be slow and hobbly but I think that's just not going to happen.

Stretch Marks: Still no new ones :-)

What is different this time around: Mostly everything. Generally for the better, but the SPD I could do without.

What I am looking forward to this week:  Getting offers? Selling our house? Not losing my mind?

33 Weeks

How Far along: 33 weeks

Baby size: 18"ish and about 4 1/2-5 pounds

Total weight gain: 16 pounds

Maternity clothes: Yes. I think I need another shirt or two (again) because even some of my maternity shirts are getting short...Also, I've commandeered one of Chris' winter coats.

Sleep: Yes, please. Gimme more. I'm seriously exhausted by like 7pm every day. Oy.

Best Moment this week: Getting my maternity support belt, haha. Do I know how to party or what?! But seriously, I can actually walk normally again, it's awesome!

Movement: Yes. Lots. She's very strong.

Gender:  Girl!

Labor signs: BH contractions, but nothing exciting (which is great)

Belly button: As Delilah put it, it's "pretty puffed out" but still kind of flat... so not in anymore.

Cravings: Nothing new. :-)

Aversions: Nothing new.

What I miss: Bending over, not having heartburn/acid reflux every day. Being able to get comfortable at night.

Stretch Marks: Still no new ones, and the rash seems to be under control! Yay!

What is different this time around: Mostly everything. Also, just for fun, I found a formula that is as reliable as ultrasound at predicting baby size (according to an actual scientific study!). Assuming this girl goes to 40 weeks, she may be 8.1 pounds. That's more than a pound bigger than both my previous kiddos! To be fair though, I also calculated it for my other two and it was 11-17% high for both of them, so maybe she'll only be...7.2 pounds. Hmm. Still bigger, but I'm thinking she'll be closer to 8, because I've felt her giant head in there.

What I am looking forward to this week: Getting the house sparkly for pictures to list on Wednesday (didn't get done this week because it was like Canada cold so we all sort of hunkered down and just tried to be warm).

32 Weeks

How Far along: 32 weeks

Baby size: 17"ish and about 4 pounds

Total weight gain: 14-15 pounds depending on the day

Maternity clothes: yep

Sleep: Yes, please. Gimme more.

Best Moment this week: Progress on the house, just finishing stuff left. Also, finding out that the realtor wants to list the house for $15K higher than originally, and that she's really impressed with what we've done. :-)

Movement: Yes. Lots. She's strong enough to make uncomfortable jabs (like being jab-tickled from the inside) and she gets the hiccups a decent amount of time.

Gender:  Girl!

Labor signs: BH contractions, but nothing exciting.

Belly button: In. Ish.

Cravings: Chocolate. Coffee (though really, it's more an I need coffee thing...)

Aversions: Nothing new.

What I miss: Bending over, not having heartburn/acid reflux for hours every day. Being able to walk without being in pain.

Stretch Marks: Still no new ones, but still itching like a mofo and if I skip a day on the steroid cream the PUPPPs rash flares more.

What is different this time around: Mostly everything. The SPD/instability is new and sucky, but mostly manageable as long as I do the exercises to strengthen things. It's definitely getting worse, though, my whole pelvic bone just aches when I get up in the morning or from sitting down a while.

What I am looking forward to this week: LISTING THE HOUSE! EEEEEP! And getting a maternity support belt.

31 Weeks ~ Happy Halloween! ~

How Far along: 31 weeks

Baby size: 17"ish and about 3- 3 1/2 pounds

Total weight gain: 14-15 pounds, depending on the day

Maternity clothes: yep

Sleep: Yes, please. Gimme more.

Best Moment this week: Setting an actual date (in about 2 weeks) to list the house, get photos done, etc. And getting our costumes done in time for Halloween, haha. And confirming that Little Cat C is indeed head down (which I knew, but still, nice to see on ultrasound).

Movement: Yes. Lots. Still not as much as Delilah, which is very nice.

Gender:  Girl!

Labor signs: BH contractions a lot. Fortunately (as we learned in a fun little visit to the hospital for monitoring) they aren't actually doing anything in terms of progress, which is very good. I get to drink even *more* water than I have been, and start taking that Cramp Bark Tincture again *gag* as needed but it's better than taking Procardia with the possible side effects of that...

Belly button: In. Ish.

Cravings: hot chocolate, onion rings, chocolate in general

Aversions: Nothing new.

What I miss: Bending over, not having heartburn/acid reflux for hours every day.

Stretch Marks: No new ones but I still have (super mild) PUPPP. Fortunately, I also have prescription strength steroid ointment which seems to knock down the itching for a couple days at a time as long as I apply enough and don't mix it with coconut oil (dilutes it too much).

What is different this time around: Mostly everything.

What I am looking forward to this week: Finishing touches on the house, Halloween/Trick or Treating with the kids. Buying a winter coat for myself and James this weekend (since his is packed and we don't know which box it's in, and mine... doesn't fit at the moment). Also unpacking/repacking the kid's clothes, because we packed their winter stuff... (optimism = not so realistic, actually).

30 Weeks

How Far along: 30 weeks...

Baby size: 16"ish and about 2 1/2-3 pounds

Total weight gain: 14-15 pounds, depending on the day

Maternity clothes: yep

Sleep: Yes, please. Gimme more.

Best Moment this week: My boss knew I was having a rough week and gave my family two butterbraids, and also we got in touch with the realtor and are going to have her come by on Monday or Tuesday to do pics and list the house!

Movement: Yes. Lots. Still not as much as Delilah, which is very nice.

Gender:  Girl!

Labor signs: BH contractions a lot. But they go away when I lay down, take a bath, drink a little wine, drink some water, go pee... I know what preterm labor is like, so I'm being cautious and aware.

Belly button: In. Ish. Kinda star shaped with an umbrella-y thing over it...

Cravings: hot chocolate... breakfast sausage. That sounds lovely. And smoothies (mainly because I have a cold again. Whee!)

Aversions: Nothing new.

What I miss: Bending over, not having heartburn/acid reflux for hours every day. Sleeping all night long, but that's as much Delilah as anything else.

Stretch Marks: No new ones but I'm starting to get a bit of a rash on my belly. Again. Hello PUPPP, I missed you. NOT. And apparently it doesn't require visible/new stretch marks to arrive, nor does it adhere to the "first pregnancy only" thing or the "usually happens with boys" (since I have now gotten it with all 3). I really, really hope it does not get worse. The itching may drive me insane. Ugh.

What is different this time around: Mostly everything.

What I am looking forward to this week: Family birthday party on Saturday, actually finishing the house since we're on the mend from our colds, and listing the house! Come on, house seekers and give us lots of money!

29 Weeks!

How Far along: 29 weeks. What the what?!

Baby size: 15"-17" and about 2 1/2 pounds

Total weight gain: 13-14 pounds, depending on the day

Maternity clothes: yep (although the shirt I'm wearing today is not maternity, it is actually longer than some of my maternity tops. Hmm.)

Sleep: Yes, please. Gimme more.

Best Moment this week: Baby wiggles, hearing her heartbeat on the doppler at my appointment today, and finishing the cabinets (do I know how to party or do I know how to party?).

Movement: Yes. Lots. Still not as much as Delilah, which is very nice.

Gender:  Girl!

Labor signs: N/A, BH contractions a couple times an hour, sometimes more. Nothing worrying, just the same as with Delilah.

Belly button: In. Ish. Kinda star shaped with an umbrella-y thing over it...

Cravings: hot chocolate... breakfast sausage. That sounds lovely.

Aversions: Nothing new.

What I miss: Bending over, not having heartburn/acid reflux for hours every day. Sleeping all night long, but that's as much Delilah as anything else.

Stretch Marks: No new ones :-)

What is different this time around: Mostly everything. I did have sugar in my urine sample at my appointment this morning, so I guess I need to cut back on the carbs and eat some protein. Breakfast burritos here I come :-p. We'll re-evaluate if that's working at my next appointment.

What I am looking forward to this week: Getting the house listed on Tuesday (GOING TO HAPPEN. Which reminds me, I need to email the realtor...) and hopefully start house hunting for real instead of just online. I really hope this process goes fast and smoothly, because I just have no energy for anything fun any more, or even energy to think about doing fun things. All my brain power is going to house stuff.

28 Weeks

How Far along: 28 weeks O.o

Baby size: 15"+ and about 2 1/2 pounds

Total weight gain: 12-13, depending on the day

Maternity clothes: yep

Sleep: Yes, please. Gimme more.

Best Moment this week: Got a Giant Microbe egg cell at the product show on Tuesday :-).

Movement: Yes. She likes to have random dance/spazz parties.

Gender:  Girl!

Labor signs: N/A, BH contractions a couple times an hour, sometimes more. Nothing worrying, just the same as with Delilah.

Belly button: In. Ish.

Cravings: Pumpkin stuff, brownies, but I haven't the energy to actually make them, and also, many cravings are not worth the heartburn. :-/

Aversions: Nothing new.

What I miss: Bending over, not having heartburn/acid reflux for hours every day.

Stretch Marks: No new ones :-)

What is different this time around: Mostly everything.Way more heartburn/reflux this time. Maybe she'll have more hair than her siblings. The contractions are the same as the other two, hopefully not going to do what they did with James but I am keeping an eye on things. I'm also borderline anemic (pretty sure I still am, I'm going to request they check again at my next appt) which hasn't been an issue during pregnancy before.

What I am looking forward to this week: Finishing the house. Getting it listed. YES. This will happen. I don't anticipate much relaxation this weekend (shocking).

27 Weeks! Hi there, 3rd trimester.

How Far along: 27 weeks, hello 3rd trimester!

Baby size: 14"-15" and about 2 pounds. According to the Bump, that's about the size of a rutabaga. Go home Bump, you're drunk.

Total weight gain: 11ish

Maternity clothes: yep

Sleep: I like sleep. Sleep is lovely. Except when heartburn happens.

Best Moment this week: Random Starbucks card in my work mail this week :-).

Movement: Yep, a lot when she's awake. When she's asleep she's like a rock.

Gender:  Girl!

Labor signs: N/A, BH contractions a couple times an hour.

Belly button: In, getting flatter.

Cravings: Pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. Caramel apples. Basically fall foods. Crab legs.

Aversions: Nothing new.

What I miss: Sleeping without waking up to pee at night, not having heartburn if I eat too close to bedtime. Being able to eat a big meal. Being able to bend over. My pelvis not being sore.

Stretch Marks: No new ones :-)

What is different this time around: Mostly everything.

What I am looking forward to this week: More house progress. No way in hell are we getting the house listed this weekend, but we're making leaps and bounds in progress. My plans for the weekend are to paint the master bathroom and do all the finishing stuff on the other bathroom, and get the kids' room painted.

Also, just for funzies:

Pregnancy #1: at the end of my second trimester, I had gained 15 pounds, and had gestational diabetes (though I didn't know it yet).

Pregnancy #2: at the end of my second trimester, I had gained 11 pounds.

Pregnancy #3: at the end of my second trimester, I have gained 11 pounds! Weird, but cool, and I have no idea why my belly is so enormous. I'm not sure how much bigger I'll get over the next 3 months, even though it's clearly ALL belly.

29 weeks pregnant with J (don't have a 27 weeks pic)
27 weeks pregnant with Dee

And 27 weeks pregnant with #3. Yikes. Hold me, I'm frightened.

26 Weeks, last week of the second trimester

How Far along: 26 weeks!

Baby size: 14" and almost 2 pound. According to the Bump, that's about the size of a head of lettuce. Um. What? Who has ever seen a 2 pound head of lettuce? That's insane!

Total weight gain: 10ish

Maternity clothes: yep

Sleep: I like sleep. Sleep is lovely. Except when heartburn happens.

Best Moment this week: More baby wiggles. Hmm. Otherwise...Making progress on the house. I also finished reading/listening to the audiobook for The Guild of the Cowry Catchers Complete Series, which is without a doubt one of my absolute favorite series EVER.

Movement: Yep. Lots and lots. But only when she's awake. She's not doing anything weird like her siblings did (yet), so that's good. She likes to stick her butt out.

Gender:  Girl

Labor signs: N/A, BH contractions a few times a day.

Belly button: In, but doing weird things so it looks like a tiny volcano sometimes.

Cravings: Pumpkin spice lattes (preferably homemade, but I've discovered that 1 pump of syrup in a Tall one at Sbux is actually pretty close to perfect), pumpkin bread/cookies (really need to make them!), meatball sandwiches. Sushi, of course. :-) No pica, which is good. I guess it means I'm not super anemic, just still borderline.

Aversions: Nothing new.

What I miss: Sleeping without waking up to pee at night, not having heartburn if I eat too close to bedtime. Being able to eat a big meal.

Stretch Marks: No new ones :-)

What is different this time around: Everything, pretty much. Except I think my belly button did this with Delilah too.

What I am looking forward to this week: More house progress, hopefully finish packing more. Time is ticking to get done with it! We want to list the house in the 1st weekend of Oct, so... Yikes!

25 Weeks!

How Far along: 25 weeks! OMG.

Baby size: Cauliflower. I am getting a bit suspicious about how they decide what food item best matches baby. Hmm. About 13" and 1.5ish pounds.

Total weight gain: 9ish

Maternity clothes: yep

Sleep: I like sleep. Sleep is lovely.

Best Moment this week: Gem and Fossil show with the kids and a friend, and making lots of progress on the cabinets. Well, I say lots. Making progress. Oh, and I passed the 1 hour glucose test, so that's exciting.

Movement: Yes. A lot, when she's awake. She was having a dance party after I drank my nasty awful glucose drink yesterday. And we got a box of clothes from 0-3 months up to 5T for the girls (EEE! GIRLS!), and Delilah had a great time helping to sort through it. :-)

Gender:  IT'S A GIRL!

Labor signs: N/A, BH contractions once in a while.

Belly button: In. But doing weird things.

Cravings: Chocolate. Sushi (omg I want this so badly, but I will wait until I am not sick so I can enjoy it more). Pumpkin bread (still need to make this). Salami and avocado and cheese sandwiches. MMM.

Aversions: Nothing new.

What I miss: Sleeping without waking up to pee at night. Not having this stupid cough.

Stretch Marks: No new ones, yay!

What is different this time around: Everything!

What I am looking forward to this week: Cabinet transformationing, continued :-). And hopefully this cough going away. And maybe starting to paint the walls, and getting a new toilet and getting a new hood for the stove. Whee!

24 Weeks. Oh. My. Monkeys.

How Far along: 24 weeks! Happy viability week, baby has a 50% chance of surviving if born now. Please don't test that, baby. Also, this means (yay math!) that I only have 16 weeks left.

Baby size: Cantaloupe. Hmm. About 12" and 1.25ish pounds.

Total weight gain: 8.5-9ish

Maternity clothes: yep

Sleep: I like sleep. This week has been hard, since I've been sick and it's really hard to fall back asleep or stay asleep with all the snot. And now, coughing.

Best Moment this week: My best husband in the whole world finishing our laminate floors, minus the transition strips which we need to get/order, and then starting on the cabinets because I've been so sick.

Movement: Yes. I noticed that she flipped head up for about 5 minutes so I could feel her little head and poke it, rather than her butt, but she must not have liked that much because she flipped back over pretty fast.

Gender:  IT'S A GIRL!

Labor signs: N/A, BH contractions once in a while.

Belly button: In.

Cravings: Chocolate. New England clam chowder. Sushi (omg I want this so badly, but I will wait until I am not sick so I can enjoy it more). Pumpkin bread.

Aversions: Nothing new.

What I miss: Sleeping without waking up to pee at night. Not being sick

Stretch Marks: No new ones, yay!

What is different this time around: Everything! It's really weird being sick while pregnant this time, because I REALLY only feel crappy from this cold, and have no issues at all from the pregnancy side, though round ligament pain happens periodically. Ouch. Coughing sucks because my abdominal muscles aren't working but other than that it's just a regular cold.

What I am looking forward to this week: Cabinet transformationing :-). Really. It's my project while Chris is hunting. And not being sick any more. And single-mom staying at home for 3 days next week, which will be nice. I hope. I'm also going to the Gem and Fossil show with a friend and the kids this weekend, so that will be fun!
