James (carrying flashlight): "Look, Mom-meee! Fyash-yite!"
Tena: "Cool flashlight, dude. Where did you get it?"
James (pausing to think, then looking up): "Bears."
Tena: "Bears gave you a flashlight?"
James: "Yes. Bears. Fyash yite!"
Quick, someone call animal control. There are bears in my house and they give my son flashlights.

Building Bridges
Sick toddler + sick parents = messy, messy living room. Oy. Cute kid though. And yes, he is holding Chris' metronome.

Poor Sick James
James has a cold. Poor kiddo. He's been reading a lot of books, drinking a lot of juice, and generally being pretty pitiful.

Random James Updates
James spent a good part of the car ride to Grandma Becky's house yesterday practicing saying "seatbelt."
It went about like this:
Seat beht
bet
bewt
beewwt
bewt
seat bewt
seatbewt!!
He spent several minutes today making his Buzz Lightyear climb up me, saying "Buzz doing? climb...Buzz climb! Uh oh, Buzz falled."
Also, he likes to sleep with books. I found him like this on Saturday when I went to get him up from his nap.

Not ten minutes ago, I was in the kitchen and James came up behind me, put his hand on my butt, and said "Butt. Butt biiiig."
He is so grounded.

A Boy and A Booger.
James just tried to give me a booger. When that wasn't successful he tried to put it back in his nose.
Awesome.
Awesome.

Some Random James-ness
In a true demonstration of his neat-freakiness, James ate an entire bitty cupcake without making a mess. (Lovely Confections is a marvelous, marvelous place, by the way. Mmmm, cupcakes.)
James has also gotten way into books. I wonder where he got that? Anyway, it's pretty common to go in and get him up from his nap, or first thing in the morning, and find at least a couple books in bed with him. He likes to read to his animals, and I went in this morning to discover that he had at some point during the night gotten Curious George ("Dorge") to cuddle.
Earlier this week, Chris caught James in the act of snagging a book. He went in to get the boy up from naptime and found James standing on his tippy toes pulling a book off of his shelf. James turned, saw Chris, dropped the book and ran back to bed where he promptly laid down and pretended to be asleep, even saying "Daddy! Sleeping." Not so convincing, but cute nonetheless. We have since explained that he can get books down all he wants and won't get in trouble.
No matter how many times we tell him that he's two, if asked his age James will reply "Freee!" (three) with great enthusiasm. He completely gets the concept of "one" though, and just told me this evening that he had "one teat" (one treat; in this case, a jellybean) in his hand. He even told me that the treat was "cuer byoo" (color blue) when I asked him what color it was. Smart cookie. Of course, he's been running around just holding his treat instead of eating it, but as long as he's happy I won't complain.
