Random James Updates

James spent a good part of the car ride to Grandma Becky's house yesterday practicing saying "seatbelt."
It went about like this:
Seat beht
bet
bewt
beewwt
bewt
seat bewt
seatbewt!!

He spent several minutes today making his Buzz Lightyear climb up me, saying "Buzz doing? climb...Buzz climb! Uh oh, Buzz falled."

Also, he likes to sleep with books. I found him like this on Saturday when I went to get him up from his nap.

Not ten minutes ago, I was in the kitchen and James came up behind me, put his hand on my butt, and said "Butt. Butt biiiig."
He is so grounded.

A Boy and A Booger.

James just tried to give me a booger. When that wasn't successful he tried to put it back in his nose.

Awesome.

Some Random James-ness

In a true demonstration of his neat-freakiness, James ate an entire bitty cupcake without making a mess. (Lovely Confections is a marvelous, marvelous place, by the way. Mmmm, cupcakes.)

James has also gotten way into books. I wonder where he got that? Anyway, it's pretty common to go in and get him up from his nap, or first thing in the morning, and find at least a couple books in bed with him. He likes to read to his animals, and I went in this morning to discover that he had at some point during the night gotten Curious George ("Dorge") to cuddle.

Earlier this week, Chris caught James in the act of snagging a book. He went in to get the boy up from naptime and found James standing on his tippy toes pulling a book off of his shelf. James turned, saw Chris, dropped the book and ran back to bed where he promptly laid down and pretended to be asleep, even saying "Daddy! Sleeping." Not so convincing, but cute nonetheless. We have since explained that he can get books down all he wants and won't get in trouble.

No matter how many times we tell him that he's two, if asked his age James will reply "Freee!" (three) with great enthusiasm. He completely gets the concept of "one" though, and just told me this evening that he had "one teat" (one treat; in this case, a jellybean) in his hand. He even told me that the treat was "cuer byoo" (color blue) when I asked him what color it was. Smart cookie. Of course, he's been running around just holding his treat instead of eating it, but as long as he's happy I won't complain.

The Stats

I know you're all just dying to hear (read?) about James's 2 year checkup. Once again, the doctor mentioned that he's a very smart boy and pretty far ahead on his language skills. I guess average two-year-olds don't speak in 3+ word sentences (for example: "Light, side look bunny house" meaning "I'm taking this flashlight and going outside to look for bunny houses"). Anyway, here goes:

Height: 35.5", 77th Percentile
Weight: 27# 10oz, 48th Percentile
Head Circumference: 50cm, 82nd Percentile

Yeah. He's tall and skinny and has a big head. It's rather weird to me having a tall kid, as when I was growing up all of us were always a lot lower on the growth charts. I think my little brothers (bwahahaha, I crack myself up) were both consistently in the 25th or thereabouts.

When James Learned to Talk Back

Yesterday James was nibbling on one of his toys. I told him to stop biting that, and he looked at me with a twinkle in his eye and said "Not bite. Taste."

I think my laughter may have negated my authority with trying to get him not to bite his toys.

Happy Birthday, James!

Today, James is two. It's hard to believe! His current favorite activities are watching "booies" (movies), especially about Babe and dinosaurs and Mickey ("mouse"), even if they're scary ("scaey"), cooking in his kitchen for his toy dinosaurs, playing with his cars and legos ("leh-ohs"), reading and, of course, spending time in his big boy bed. He's also really into carrying one of his cool new light up shoes around and whacking it against his palm so that the lights go. Potty training is going slowly, but he is a big fan of his potty, especially if he gets to read a book on the potty (boy is he Chris' kid...).

He's very particular (shocking, I know) about where things go and how he does things. He likes to eat with a spoon or fork, but often just holds it in one hand and picks up his food with the other. His farm animals that he got for Christmas (thanks Ruth!-right?) must go in their appropriate houses in the barn. He's decided that the horse is the daddy, the pig is the mommy (gee, thanks, son) and the sheep is the baby. Anything dinosaur related is guaranteed to be a hit, especially dinosaur pants (he has two pairs of pajamas with dinosaurs on the pants) and shirts (of which he now has 3, not including pajamas). He can name three kinds of dinosaurs: stegosaurus ("saurus"), triceratops ("tops") and tyrannosaurus rex ("REX!") and all of them say "Raaaaar" in a growly sort of voice. When he's playing with them, the triceratops is the daddy dinosaur while the stegosaurus is the mommy. Of course, if one of us (Chris or I) puts one of the kitchen toys away in the wrong part of the kitchen James gets mad and has to go fix it. He's also gotten really into drinking out of a big boy cup ("tup"), even telling me that he tips the cup so he can take a sip of his water.

Happy birthday kiddo!

Oh, New Bed, How I Love You (from James)

Papa made me an awesome new bed for my birthday. I'm not really sure what a birthday means, but Mommy said that means I am two now almost and so I can hold up two fingers instead of one for how old I am. I like my new bed. It is so cool. If I hear Mommy or Daddy say the word "bed" or "nap" I run to my bed and crawl right in. I even put myself down for naps sometimes, until the Hound or Fee comes to sniff me. Then I get up and go tell Daddy that they came to sniff me. Usually at this point I get distracted by my cool house (kitchen) and make some tea or food for my saurs. My saurs like tea and food. They eat from a spoon. I have a movie about beeb saurs (baby dinosaurs). I also have a movie about a squirrel. It's a funny squirrel, and there's a phant (elephant) in the movie too. I get to sit on a chair to watch movies. The chair is soft like my bed.

I love my bed so much that I even make Mommy change my diaper on my bed. This morning I was being really cool and just sitting on my bed, with my feet on the floor. It was fun. I was stomping my feet so my cool new shoes would light up. I like my bed. My bed has my new saur from Grandma on it, and my new saur blanket from Aunt Ruth. I like to snuggle with both of those. I also put my new saur jammies on my pillow so I can wear them again when I go to bed tonight. I am wearing a cool new shirt with saurs on it. They are rexes.

I like to tell Mommy that I have a bed, and it has sheets on it. I keep my beeb tops (baby triceratops) in my bed. He poked me in the eye once but then Mommy came and kissed my eye and it was ok so I hugged my tops and we went back to sleep. I also have socks in my bed, because I take them off when I sleep. I put my socks in the hamper this morning because Mommy asked me to, and I like to help. Then I got back on my bed. My bed is cool. I even bring my books into my bed when Mommy isn't looking. She found three of them in there yesterday. I think I need to hide them better, but it is so cool that I have a bed!
